Vada Pav

Vada Pav is a famous street food of Mumbai stuffed with some delicious juicy potatoes and chutney!

Ingredients

i. Vada

  1. 1 inch Ginger
  2. Chopped coriander
  3. 4-5 garlic cloves
  4. 3/4 of mustard seeds
  5. 12-15 curry leaves
  6. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  7. 4 medium potatoes (mashed)
  8. 3/4 tsp hing
  9. Salt (to taste)
  10. 1 tbsp oil
  11. 2-3 green chillies

ii. Batter

  1. 1 cup besan
  2. 1/2 tsp turmeric
  3. Pinch of baking soda
  4. Salt (to taste)
  5. 1/2 cup of water

iii. Chutney

  1. 1 cup garlic chutney
  2. 1 cup tamarind chutney
  3. 1 cup green chutney

iv. 1 Pav Bread

Procedure

  • Boil the potatoes until soft, peel them and keep aside. Crush the ginger garlic and green chilli.
  • Heat a pan with oil. Once the oil is heated, add mustard seeds . Then add curry leaves and hing.
  • Add the crushed ginger garlic and chillies.
  • Now add the boiled potatoes and remove the pan from heat. Add turmeric, salt and mash the potatoes. Then add the coriander.
  • Now give the potatoes a shape of Vada.
  • Heat oil in a kadai on high flame. Dip the potatoes into the batter the carefully and drop it into the oil.
  • Fry the Vada until golden brown.
  • Toast the pav with some butter on pan, then slice the pav.
  • Apply green chutney on one side and tamarind chutney on the other. Then apply garlic chutney on both the sides.
  • Place the fried Vada in the centre.

Serve the Vada Pav with some more chutney and enjoy!
